keeping station

What a great post. It makes a great point by which i'd like to highlight. It mentions the fact that if you can't suspend the movement of your boat, you have no business at a busy marina or landing. That's not the exact wording, but that is exactly what it meant.

The landing I usually put my boat in at is extremely narrow, and extremely busy. The channel might be a total of 50' wide and boats up to 30' long are loading there. Very dangerous if you don't know how to navigate a boat. The wind is always blowing, and the current rips through that narrow channel. I've seen alot of people tear up some nice boats. Current and wind being the killer. People don't think that effects the boat very much, and they all find out the hard way that it does.

Moral of the story is, if you're new to driving a boat, practice at a landing that's not busy. And do it on a river where there is current so you will understand the effects is has on the boat. Don't show up at a busy marina and expect to go out and not run into someone. Steering a boat is easy, effectively navigating one takes years of experiance and practice.

Be safe, don't jump into the ring with the lions until you've roamed with the cats. [cool]
