For a nice all around Rod and Reel combo, my choice for those particular species is the Seeker Inshore ll matched with the Avet SX in the blue color. The Seeker Rod already has the blue trim all over it so the blue Avet makes it a good match.
Your line sizes will vary from species to species. You should be able to handle the Calicos, Sand Bass and the normal Halibut on 15lb line. It's only fitting because the Avet has a 14lb drag.
I have caught many different species on the exact same set up including 35lb Halibut and 40lb YellowTail. You just need to finnesse them.
That rod should run you @ 140.00and the reel is around 150 with the clamp.[cool]
