Using the pin was just a quick and easy way to attach the rod holder. It also makes it easy to remove when packing the toon in the car.(I haven't got a roof rack yet) The hole was already drilled from the factory. There is one on each side for the stock rod holder. The stock rod holder is short and is really only good for holding a rod while changing lures. It's not very good for use while moving under power.
The lake I was on was Crabtree Lake in Raleigh. It was just an easy place to have my maiden voyage. I hear there is good fishing there, but the water quality is very poor. A local business was dumping chemicals nearby[
] and that has kept me from fishing there.
