Weekly Fishing Report Thursday, January 25, 2007

For the U.P.

South and Big Manistuiqe Lakes , Walleyes are hitting on spotted tail shiners in the cuts and bays on tip ups ,4" to 5" of ice with open water in the center of the lakes .

Munosking Bay , 4"to5"of ice with perch hitting the best on waxeys.

Lake Independance is the ticket for big perch , use waxeys or minnows off of Perkins park in 30' of water , average sizes are 12" to 14". 10 to 15 lb. Pike are hitting sucker minnows closer to shore on tip-ups , Mi.D.N.R. Fall Lake Trout Plants are being cought . Ice is 4" to 5" .

Lake Gogebic , Early morning walleyes are the hot item , fish the flats in 20' of water . Ice remains around 10" .On Lake Gogebic, the perch fishing is reported as being fair to good on the northeast corner of the lake. Wigglers are the preferred bait. The north end of the lake is also producing fair walleye fishing. Try using a tip-up tipped with a sucker minnow.


Other Reports,

In the Copper Harbor area, the splake and walleye fishing ranges from fair to good on Lake Fanny Hooe. Anglers are dropping jigs through the ice. Along Copper Harbor, the splake fishing is good. There is still no ice on the harbor, so anglers are fishing from docks.


Around Marquette, the splake and lake trout fishing on the Lower Marquette and Upper Marquette harbors is fair.


The walleye fishing is fair on East Bass Lake and Teal Lake. The best times to be out fishing on Teal Lake are before dawn or after it turns dark in the evening.

The pike fishing is reported as being good on the Greenwood Reservoir. Anglers on Little Lake are catching a few perch and walleye.

In the Escanaba area, the bluegill, crappie and perch fishing is fair on Jeans Pond. Ice is forming on Little Bay de Noc, however, fishing activity has been limited so far this week.
