I'll agree on the superglue method. I have even used it on fairly bad cuts and woulds to seal and protect the area from bacteria and such. It stings just a little when you first apply it, but it makes a strong waterproof barrier. I first leaned about this from a doctor when I was a kid. He sealed up a wound on my knee with superglue and sent me on my way.
The glue will work its way off in about 2 or 3 days, just enough time to let those pesky cracks heal up. Just don't pick at it!
