It does work, but of course you definitely would need to anchor it down. About 20 years ago I used to use a tiny dome tent and just sit inside it and fish outside of it, just something to break the cold breeze. Beware that sometimes you're in slush if the day warms up a little or you heat the inside of your tent, and you can end up fishing in a puddle of cold water, so it's wise to bring along something to put your feet up on. I've used little platforms I made out of 1 x 2's.
