Ice Tent

Okay, I had a question for you ice experts...forgive me if it's a naive question...but couldn't you make an "ice fishing tent" out of a regular 8-man dome tent? I have an old one that I was thinking about cutting a few holes in the bottom (and sewing them for strength) so I could fish out of them? Why would or wouldn't that work? (I don't have the budget for a proper ice tent.)
