National food aleart, dont eat.....ecoli
#23
Pigs could be the term they use for employes living in semi trailors wondering from farm to farm.....

thanks, there are a lot of loops and hoops to jump though to get a traveling kitchen open...

In a kitchen there are tons of rules about handling ready to eat foods. One would think that the rules would be the same all the way back to the farm. Lets face it, onions, spinich, radishes, and hundreds of other fruits and vegitables go directly from the farm only to be rinced off and eaten raw.

I think it would only make sence to me that some one harvesting ready to eat foods would have to be regulated by the same health codes as some one in a kitchen.

If any one dosnt think so, just remember this conversation the next time you pass the grapes in the grocery store. How many times have you eaten a grape or two off the rack as a kid, how many times have you seen some one else eating grapes from off the shelf?

personaly I would trust an apple streight off the tree before I would one on the rack. yes they were washed and waxed before they reach the rack, but how many people walked by that rack yawning, sneazing, hacking, coughing with out covering them selves...

I remember when I began my work as a government civil servent many years ago, I had to have been tested for TB and other human trasmited deseases. Litterly I had to go see the vet and get my shots before I was allowed in to camp.

Any way I see on the news there is talk about forming a national single food handling regultory commision. I was reading an artical the other day that there are more than 3000 different NSF standards. NSF standards in florida dont meet the same standards in michigan and the same go for california...

I was looking for equipment in my state and found no one makes it here, there are only a half dozen or so states where my equipment is made and sure enough, not one of them meets michigans standards. Any thing that will meet Mich standards has to be coustom built. and of corse costom priced as well... if ya catch my driftwood.

any one ever hearing the story of Typhoyd Mary knows how easy one person can infect a multitude of people not nessisarly knowing. so in the case of migrant workers who dont have to go through health screaning litterly put every man woman and child at serious risk of illness even death....

So give that a thought the next time you pick a straw berry up off the shelf and pop it in to your mouth....

I am incurraged that at least talks have begun, and a raid of illegal imigrant workers was run this week in california and several regeons.

I dont mean to pick on the imigrant workers, I know it sounds like I am at times, I may have family in those groops of migrant and illeagle migrant wrokers. I dont know but it is a vary good posibility.

Just now As I was typing this, My local news said the government said lettus was the cause of toco bell ecoli break out that infected 71 people. I guess persons getting sick on toco beel would have know if they et an onion or not on thier toco. the news said there was no government back up on the claim toco bell made about the onions.
