Joni makes a good point. Though I tried the Tupperware tray that serves some of you so well I ended up going back to the stock mesh stripping apron on the SFC and ODC 420 because, to me, it handles a fly line better. As I strip in a pile of wet fly line with every cast the water that runs off the line tends to pool up on the tray. It also pools up when I fish (often in Oregon) in the rain. I poked some drain holes in the Tupperware but that didn't completely solve the problem. The netting does away with this problem and gives instant drainage of every drop of water. No puddles. Of course you sacrifice the nice, flat, hard surface benefit of the tray that makes fiddling with tackle very nice. It's a trade off either way.
To me the ideal for fly fishing from a tube would be a rigid frame that housed a semi-tightly stretched mesh - with just enough "give" in the middle to concentrate the weight of the line in the center of the apron. Some toons have this kind of setup. My R&D department hasn't come up with anything yet so I'm still using the standard stripping apron on the SFC.
If any of you have suggestions I'd love to hear them. 99% of my fishing is with a fly rod.
