Wonder in a Child's Eyes...
#7
Hey Tubebabe,

[cool]I always love it when you post. We'd enjoy it if you did so more often.[cool][cool][cool]

I find it as much fun to help them catch fish as to catch them myself. (Well, almost!) My biggest problem is holding back on my own enthusiasm to take the rod out of their hand and show them all the things I've learned and know rather than allowing them to discover for themselves. I have to bite my Tongue and tie my hands behind my back sometimes. Count to ten. Walk around the block. Spit. Kick the ground. Hold back.

Leaving the tube at home might be the best thing for the relationship as it will (maybe) help you focus on the job at hand - showing them how to catch a fish. With biting fish nearby its hard not to switch into preditor mode and begin plotting an assault. (Its that way for me, anyway.) Gotta throttle back.

Best of luck to you in your mentoring the grandson. You could well give him the experience that will bear fruit for a lifetime. My earliest memories of fun times go back to a cut down steel rod, a bobber, a worm, my grandpa's boat with the red motor, and a bass that grabbed my bait just as we were getting ready to leave for home. I don't remember much more than that - except that I dragged that bass around on a stringer with grandpa telling everyone in the neighborhood how I had just caught my first bass. You would have thought I had just graduated from college. That puts fishing in your blood. The infection has never let up since then.

What part of NorCal are you going to? That's my old stomping grounds.

z~
