Who remembers the first fish they ever caught?
#36

My First fish ... hmmm .... A little dust on the ole Pentium upstairs ....
No wait I'm not sure if this was my first fish caught but certainly the most memorable one:

I was fishing with my father and my older brother (9 years my senior ftr), i was not yet in school so that would have been pre 1980 (yeah I am aware, big fish elude most - time does not). The reason why this fishing expedition was so memorable was the fact that at that time we had an old Aluminium freighter canoe which if memory serves me correctly was a behemoth of a boat at that time or it seemed to me anyways. It was 16 foot +/- a bit, but it was wide and stable on the water. On the stern end we had a brand new, maybe the second or third off of the assembly line, electric Minn Kota trolling motor and as a precautionary measure me father had brought along as always four spare 12 volt batts (just in case).

We trolled up and down the shores of Charlie Lake B.C. (Mile 52 'ish Alaska Highway for the travellers) seeking Walleyes or Northerns or whatever else would bite our offerings of lures. My older brother (whom i have always looked up to) had been stating continously "I got a bite !!" or "I had a bite !!" really added a sense of intrigue to my time grasping my "Omni" rod and reel combo ( I remember this as it was a nice silver color) when suddenly my rod bent and drag screamed off the little silver reel (this may be an embelishment on my part), starting my first battle with my first underwater inhabitant. Dads yelling commands as Fathers do -"Keep you tip up!!", "Get the landing net!!" and "Don't horse it!!" - All things I had never heard of before in my life. After a fair struggle i managed to land the four pound Northern Pike with the help of my netman (Brett - older brother) and the Captain (My father).

As my brother hoisted the fish into the 16 foot canoe the Pike flipped and flopped around on the assumed hot (or to the fish I'd imagine) Aluminium canoe bottom.

Did i feel exhileration from the first fish we had caught on that day ?

Not really... As i stated before my mind was elsewhere thinking of my brother stating basically : "FISH BITE" . After the first flip-flop of the fish i tested the bouyancey of my PFD by leaping over the side of the boat and stating "If these things bite I am outta here !!"

For those who managed to read this far thanks for reading this memory of mine and since that time i have been a "FISHING NUT" ever since. I'm Bryan and thats my new Pike on the monthly fish photo thing.
