Gorge help... After we finish fishing with Jim
#9
Every day is different. Lightning will be in control the next couple days. Wind is nearly impossible to see a hit and set a hook for most guys I take, and thats IF I can hold the boat on fish and they can make a perfect presentation in the wind (almost never!). When someone not experienced with jigging on this lake for these fish goes several hours without a hit, and is tired from hours of fishing to begin with, the chances of them setting the hook in time when they finally do get a hit is slim and none. When the odds are very low, and we've had good fishing most of the day, its time to "know when to say when." I'd say I average about 6 -8 hours most days when the weather cooperates. I'd also say most days my customers are dragging by the time we hit the boat ramp. If someone is fishing hard, there's no way it can be done non-stop from sunrise to sunset. If you go out and take it easy and pace yourself to last all day, you aren't gonna catch as many, and I'm talking educated fish over 15 lbs., not the pups. Also, the bite is in the morning most days. I can catch far more fish by focusing hard, constantly, every second for 4 or 5 hours in the morning than taking it easy for 12.
