I'd like to add my 2 cents here too.
I think it would definitely speed up the site load time if it had less banners, which is obviously a good thing. However, to me, it is more annoying to have a window suddenly appear and hide what I was reading when I mouse over on one of those links by accident. Then it takes a sec after moving the mouse for it to go away again. I guess it's a tradeoff. If it does get implemented, I think I'll just have to train myself to watch it and to not let my mouse pass over any of those.
From a marketing perspective, I personally am much more likely to click on one of the google ads or the banner ads on the side then I would be to do anything with these new types of link ads.
