I rarely use a Belly Button myself. I definetely wouldn't strap myself to a rig either with a monster of such proportions.
2 years ago, I hooked up on an 8' 200lb Lemon Shark off of a pier. I was useing a 5' Okuma Pursuit rod, Daiwa Sealine Slh 30 reel with Trilene Big Game Electric Blue 25lb. It only took 1hr to get the toothy log to color and then another 1/2 hour to try and drag it up the length of the Pier to try to land it for a photo.
About 1/2 way up this 1100 foot long pier, the Shark took one last dive into the pilings and broke off.
That was a fun fight and lots of fun.[cool]
