DWR does good at Deer Creek

[#505000]When we get sworn in as cops we (all cops) agree to enforce all laws. For them just to check licenses and ignore a drug problem would be ludicrous. Frankly if you are speeding a DWR guy could (most likely won't) stop and issue a speeding ticket. [/#505000] [/reply]

So are law enforcement officers allowed some discretion or are they obligated to enforce all laws? It's been my observation that they do exercise some discretion and therefore are not obligated to enforce all laws. Where does each officer draw the line? Is it there own personnel choice or are there some rules stating when they can and cannot exercise discretion? For instance, are misdemeanors discretionary and felonies not?

I for one think that Utah marijuana laws should certainly be loosened up like many other states have done without incident. It wouldn't break my heart if they even legalized it nationally. Until then however, the law is the law and I have no issue with the officers actions. However, I wouldn't have an issue with him not even approaching the fisherman either.
