I used the surdeons knot for the longest time. Now I use the uni. The surgeons will give you better line strenght IMO but it is harder to tie at first. Now that my fingers are getting old the uni will do nicely.
Heres how to tie a surgeon knot if I remember correctly;
hold your lines side by side, hold then together and twist them to make an ioen loop.Now turn the loop keeping it open make at least 4 turns in the line. grasp both ends so that you have all four lines (2 in each hand) and slowly pull til the knot is tight and is seated correctly. trim the loose ends and your good to go. Wish I had a pic to show you. But it is one of the easiest knots I have ever learned to tie.
