I never had a modern smokless cartrige smell like sulfur, being that smokless powder does not have sulfur in it, but is rather based off of nitro celluolose or nitro cellulose and nitro glycerin (depending on whether it is single double based). Anyhow, there are tons of very interesting and different smells among various burnt powders. The Aguila/ PMC rimfire ammo (made by industrias tecanos sa ) has a very weird smell, as does SK JAGD/ WOlf .22 (German). Some Russian .22 powder and some other communist bloc powders also have very awkward smells (chemicalesque).
Very interesting. It is a nice smell after a muzzle loader goes off.
