recoating an old boat

Hi folks, it has been a while since I have posted on the board but I was wondering if I could find someone who could help me out. I have an old boat (1957 to be exact)that i have fished with for about the past 10 years and it needs a new paint job. I was wondering if anybody makes a coating to help seal the outer hull before I paint it and if using one paint verses the other really matters? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. By the way it is Aluminum, heavy Aluminum. Lakelurker[]
