It used to much more strict at Deer Creek than it is now. When I was probably about age 5 or 6 (many moons ago) we used to fish Deer Creek often. Once I was standing in the water maybe a foot from shore. A boat came by with a couple uniformed men onboard and ordered me out of the water. We were clearly informed that Deer Creek was used for drinking water and no one was allowed to swim or even wade in it!
