I learned this knot at the Fred Hall show last year. It is the real deal. My San Diegos with 60# Izor generally break at mid 80's. My first two tries with the Erwin knot broke at high 80's-low 90's.
I was impressed. The knot is fairly simple, very compact & way strong.
Down side to this knot is that you MUST have an anchoring point for the hook while tying.
