Hamilton Lake

There are no signs directing anglers to this 42-acre jewel, two miles east of Wellsboro; it doesn't appear on many maps. "They've been catching great trout there"

LACKAWANNA COUNTY
Lackawanna Lake

10 miles north of Scranton-Wilkes Barre, in the northeast corner of the state, Lackawanna Lake provides excellent hard-water trout opportunities.

The 198-acre impoundment in Lackawanna State Park receives both an October and early February stocking, ensuring plenty of trout over the long winter season.

PIKE COUNTY
Promised Land Lower Lake

Promised Land State Park, southeast of Lake Wallenpaupack in Pike County, consists of two lakes, but only Lower Lake is stocked with trout. This 173-acre impoundment on the west side of Route 390 receives a stocking in late October that usually provides plenty of fish for the ice season.

For more information on the park, call (570) 676-3428, or to make a cabin reservation, call (888) PA-PARKS.

GREENE COUNTY
Duke Lake

Duke Lake is just a little over 60 acres, but this miniature impoundment in Ryerson Station State Park, a few miles from the West Virginia border, has its share of second-season trout. The hatchery truck visits the lake in early October, mid-December and mid-February. No wonder the place is so popular with ice-anglers!

There is no mystery to fishing Duke Lake or, as it's often called, Ryerson Lake. Deep pockets in 8 to 12 feet of water hold most of the winter trout and attract most of the anglers.

For more information, contact the park office at (724) 428-4254. For accommodations in the region, contact the Green County Tourist Promotion Agency at (724) 627-8687, or visit their Web site at www.co.greene.pa.us/ BUCKS COUNTY
Luxembourg and Levittown
LakesBecause Lake Luxembourg and Levittown Lake are in the warm southeast corner of the state, it's always a matter of conjecture whether they will form sufficient ice for hard-water angling. At the very least, the ice-fishing season is going to be short on these two impoundments. But they are generously stocked with trout and provide great fishing for many anglers, so they have to be noted.

Lake Luxembourg receives three second-season stockings from early October to mid-February. The 166-acre impoundment is in Core Creek County Park on Bridgetown Pike and Route 143 at Langhorne.

Only 20 acres in size, Levittown Lake also gets trout from three second-season stockings during the same time frame. Levittown Lake is near Tulleytown and eastern Philadelphia.

For information on the lakes, contact the Bucks County Visitors Bureau at (800) 836-2825, or visit their Web site at www.buckscountycvb.org/
