Were in utah lake did you fish at? There are certain spots at lincoln were they hang out at.I also use a special rig to catch them.At least it works for me.Also walleyes are very finicky about eating dead bait. You have to give them some slack on your line because if they feel any tension they release the bait.I have told this to a lot of people who have their lines so tight that when they get a hit they dont catch anything. If you give slack the walleye will pickup the bait and when you see your line take off just reel the slck in and when you feel the weight off the fish then set the hook. Most people try to set the hook first and just pull the bait out of the eyes mouth.Remember:1) slack on your line when you cast it out
2) reel slack till you feel fish then set hook
Here is the rig that i use for walleyes.I use between a 1-2 ounce slide on weight .Then a 24 inch leader of 14lb flourocarbon.I put on a floater witha snap on weight to make the minnow saty off the bottom. Then i hook the minnow through the then over its back then into the body so the hook is hidden.Hope this helps you out.
