[reply]What's wrong with keeping the big fish if the lake is over populated anyway.[/reply]
nkunz,
It's the other way around! You keep the smaller fish that you catch to get rid of the thousands of small walleyes. Like Tubedude said, you leave the bigger ones in there as they are assured of food smaller than them.
DWR need to do some serious tweaking of its rules regarding Starvation. It is recommended that anglers keep up to 20 walleyes up to 15", and release all walleyes over 16".
Release all perch and chubs as this is their food source.
Catch and definitely keep all carp, please!
This way this will ensure giant brown, smallie, and walleye fishery for future generations. DWR- are you reading this?
I saw the Starvation classic put on by Rocky Mountian Anglers club, I was rather perturbed by what I saw, competitors would catch them , then weigh them, and take it out to some kind of a floating contraption where they release all walleyes in deeper waters. The only complaint is, they would be doing walleyes disservice by catching and releasing all of the eyes without regard to its size. I wished they would keep the smaller ones and release all the big ones. Oh well, I know they mean well, per se the rules of the competition.
Just a thought and a mighty contribution to the life of the Starvation for all to enjoy.
