Why does everyone use Fireline when there are so many good braided lines on the market?!? Fire line was the first braided line that I used. I had problems with it fraying and binding on the reel. It also didn't seem very smooth when casting and the color faded fast. I now use 30# Power Pro line and it is MUCH better, IMHO. I have not had any problems with it fraying or binding. It is very smooth and casts very well. It's color does eventually fade, but not as fast as the fireline, which has actually came off and colored my hands on the first day using it. I have also used Power Pro on in-line planer boards and on the downriggers. These do not wear the line at all, but the line is very slick and more tension is needed on the clips for them to hold. For verticle jigging in deep water (Mac fishing) there is no substitute for the braided lines which sink fast and let you feel even the slightest tension or slack in the line (1/4 oz jigs feel just as heavy at 120 ft as they do at 5 ft, where I could hardly sink a 1/4 oz jid that deep with 14# mono). It also works well for deep sea fishing. I use about a 15 foot leader of Umpqua flyfishing tippet, which I like for its limpness, low stretch, and small diameter. Last year I used a 14# leader, this year I have switched to a 3X, 8# leader. I've been meaning to try the new Spide Wire braided line. Has anyone had any luck with this line?
