The mature flathead prefer a live bait. One of my favorites is a 5-8 inch goldfish.
I catch several trophy size cats each year and release them.
I don't catch as many as the boyz targetting smaller cats but I get a few.
Using 36 # test line or lighter a catman has to trust in his drag and stay sharp to land big fish.
The 2 fish above fell prey to Abu 6500s spooled with 20 pound line[
