Deer Creek Report 10/9
#10
Hey Curt,

Deer Creek has been different this year. But then again, all the lakes were a bit off this year. D.C. never hit seventy degrees. Usually after about mid June, the water is pushing seventy and the Walleye start setting up on main lake points near deep water. This year, they stayed longer on the flats.
We caught a few big eyes on the flats, but it was way harder to fish this year. So much salad to fish through. Lots more big Perch up shallow. And with so many walleye in the nine to fourteen inch range, I think we are cathing three different year classes of stunted fish. Haven't had a lot of good forage for a couple years now.If the water level stays up on the north end, the Perch should do real good this spring. I f the DWR would go up to Lake X and bring a couple million Perch down to D.C., it sure wouldn't hurt.
The best thing that could happen right now would be to not harvest any Perch. It will be a couple years before the forage base is back and D.C. is a decent Walleye fishery again. And that's if we get some water. Otherwise, it's just going to get worse and worse. Same cycle Yuba has always gone through.

Late for work, gotta go.
Take care Curt,
