Trout Trout fishing has picked up the last two days and the river is now fishing very well. Midges, Mayflies and Caddis will all take fish. The fish are up on the surface in the back eddies and some of the good bank water. Nymphing the riffles and runs will produce fish most of the day. There are a lot of October Caddis out in places, and the pupa patterns have been a must have. Adult Patterns will work as well. Midge pupa continues to be a huge producer. Small mayfly nymphs make good droppers off of an October Caddis pupa. Steelhead Steelhead numbers continue to increase throughout the system and fair to good fishing can be had all the way upstream past Maupin. South Junction and above has still been very spotty, but there are fish scattered all the way to Warm Springs. Trout fisherman are hooking fish incidentally often enough to warrant fishing 1x or 2x tippet to your first fly with a 5x trout dropper off the back. Swinging flies in low light could produce fish all the way to Warm Springs, although it is not prime time yet. A couple of weeks will see the entire stretch above Maupin heat up. Get out there and practice, and make sure your casting skills are ready for these ocean goers.

Beaded Nymphs to have: angel case pmd and bwo, bird of prey (october caddis pupa), super flash pheasant, springcreek pmd, yellow sally, rubber-leg green copper john, green rock worm, red serendipity. Must-have Emergers: sparkle pupa (tan and green), soft-hackle (yellow, green, red), iris caddis, cdc pmd. A few Dries: cdc parachute pmd and bwo, elk hair (brown, orange, olive), g-gnat, rusty spinner. Make sure to come in and say hi, we are only 1 mile South of the Warm Springs boat ramp.

Hot Tip October caddis pupa are starting to get more active...trout and steelhead love these guys.

The Riffle Fly Shop is open every morning at 7:00 AM for you early birds, so come in and make sure we aren't napping. Check out the Trouthunter Cabin for overnight stay in the canyon near Warm Springs.
