I hear ya on the price deal. I'm always scrounging too. TubeDudes like that too except he takes all the money he saves and puts it all back in the fantastic lures he designs and makes.
I'm always misplacing stuff as well as having things hide under things, getting in spaces you wouldn't believe, etc. I have teathers for everything. On the hose clamps..... a hole drilled thru the strap and into your axle to allow a single metal screw to secure the clamp to the axle will make it more difficult to lose your clamps in the dark or forget them wherever. Just be sure to position them so that it's an easy one-two motion to slip the clamps over your foot rest pipes.
