Quote:At least one bass angler I've seen in a video didn't land bass by the lip at all. Instead, he put his hand under tired bass and lifted them straight up. They seemed docile and didn't flip away.I was watching a show one time where the anglers were catching both largemouth and striper bass. The pro-angler in the group was lipping the fish while bringing them out of the water but would bring them horizontal by lifting the body with his other hand. After unhooking them, he did a demonstration with his hands reached out over the water.
He placed his hand underneath the stripers belly and held it without the striper struggling at all. As long as he held the fish horizontal, belly supported, there was no problem. As soon as he started changing the position from horizontal to verticle, the fish started struggling. He quickly went back to horizontal and the striper went back to being calm.
With the largemouth he did the same thing and had different results. The largemouth struggles less while being lip-locked.
