Water Snakes

I talked to this guy back in the sixties and he said he fished the Everglades for bass using baby water snakes for bait. Have any of yall ever heard of this before sounds kind of wild and dangerous to me I hate snakes bur he claimed they caught lots of bass using them for bait.
