hedges -- no question what those fish are.
It sounds like Golden Shiners have been in Kolob for a number of years now. I thinnk it's too early to be talking about the doom and gloom of Kolob yet. They haven't had a huge impact on the lake yet. That's not to say that they won't. Hopefully they will not. I don't think that it will turn into another Newcastle, mainly because of the special regs that require the fish to be over 22" to keep. This is going to be somewhat like Strawberry. In Newcastle, the majority of the trout are taking out of the lake long before they reach a size big enough to start feeding on other fish. The small mouth in Newcastle are doing great, the problem with them is the competition fishermen have with the shiners. Why is a smallmouth going to take your tubejig when it is already stuffed with shiners?
Hopefully, Kolob will not go downhill. The size of the shiners in your pictures shows that they have been in the lake for some time. They have not destroyed the fishery yet, and hopefully they won't in the future. Only time will tell. Prayers might help.
