Taylor Reservoir - Pike fishing is good. Ten big Northerns were caught during Saturday's pike derby, the largest 33 inches and 9.25 lbs. It won Nick Mireli of Almont a $460 first prize. Fishing is also good for rainbow trout using nightcrawlers, Power Bait or trolling cowbells and worms. Mackinaw are deep and harder to catch. Best bait is sucker meat. Some big kokanee are being caught in 40-foot depths on trolled lures, silver and red being most effective.

Vallecito Reservoir - Fishing for brown trout remains excellent at this reservoir with anglers hauling in some real lunkers. Pike fishing is also good and kokanee fishing is starting to improve. But don't count on catching many salmon as large numbers of them were killed by oxygen depletion due to low water levels last year. The lake has recovered nicely. It is now 94 percent full, higher than the long-term average with half again as much water as it had last year.
