Some of you may recognize me as someone who asked several questions last summer about fishing from shore here in the twin cities area. I appreciate the comments. Sometime between last summer and this summer, the knots that I was using for tying swivels and hooks onto my line quit working. Or maybe I'm messing up big time. I was out fishing for the first time this year past weekend. I was at Coon Rapids Dam and managed to capture a few bullheads (great fertilizer for the vegetable garden). And then I switched to a larger hook and larger worms and hooked me a decent size carp. First time I've caught a large fish! You should have seen my excitement!

Well, the stupid thing decided it didn't want out of the water just yet so it took off with my line, pulled a good 20 feet off my spool, and tangled himself up in some timber. My line didn't snap as I tried to entice him into coming out of there. My knot came untied!

I tried a different knot and caught another decent sized carp. Just as I was getting ready to pull him onto dry land (I now realize I should buy a fishing net), the knot untied and he took off. Two biggies in a row got away cuz my knots didn't stay tied.

Help! What am I doing wrong? Someone teach me how to tie a good knot or ten. I don't wanna lose any more good fish. Thanks!!
