Much of this is just common sense, making use of the scent. But some of it is just rumor. I've heard that it works to keep mosquitoes away... big joke. The biggest of the beast with a needle for a nose were attacking me when I tried it!

And no, it didn't keep the bees away. It actually attracted them thanks to the sweet scent.
