grub tail modification
#3
I reform the tails on 3" Mr. Twister type curly tail grubs and on 4" Zoom, Fat Albert or Kalin grubs, 3-5".
The action changes when you switch to a 'fin' or 'rat' tail.
If you've ever used 2" Fin S Fish, Fin S Shads, or rattail grubs by Bass Assassin, you notice how they wobble vertically between gliding, do-nothing motions. Rod tip and involuntary hand twitches cause that different type of action versus a snake-type whipping tail action.

I like to modify when I think the fish just got tired of the curl action, just like you would change from one type of lure to another. Even though a grub is a grub, a curl tail grub is a different grub than one with a fin, paddle or thin rat tail.

I never thought Mann's stiff plastic, paddle- tail, Sting Ray grub could catch fish. They did well before softer and better designed grubs came along but Tom Mann's concept and design still works!

http://www.frontiernet.net/~postcard/mr tw 3.jpg

http://www.frontiernet.net/~postcard/kalin.gif

Edited by postcard on 06/02/02 03:17 PM.
