Inboard/Outboard Oil fill??

Not knowing much about them I will come to you guys. I was going to refill the oil in my outdrive and noticed that the top of the outdrive above the top hole it says "Oil Fill". I am used to my old outboard where you fill from the bottom hole and wait for it to come out the top hole. Anyone have any insight on this? Thx
