Strawberry all weekend
#8
K, here is the big report on what worked, didn't work, etc..... I caught all my fish on a black over gold #5 countdown rapala. It was fished with no weight. I also caught fish on Sunday morning on a Yo Zuri L minnow pattern if a foil rainbow trout pattern. Its the really shiny trout pattern. The Koke mentioned in an earlier post was caught on a lime green spinner.... Her mom wouldn't let me get a close enough look at it to see the brand but it looked a lot like a sixth ounce rooster tail. I caught all my fish except one at the mouth of soldier creek coming right out of the channel into the soldier creek side of the lake. Kims mom caught the kokanee right there as we were making a turn to go back over this hole we found. Her lure was on the inside of the turn and when we straightened out , the lure jigged back upwards and thats when the fish hit. It was really windy with about two 1/2 foot to three foot swells every afternoon and whoever said the water was warmer than the air above was absolutely right. I tried various spoons and other color rapalas but nothing else worked for me. Kim's dad did catch his fish on a black and silver countdown on lead core line with about four and a half colors out......that is until the wind took his line and blew it into his prop!!! [sly] About the fishing contest, her mom got started before I got up there but I wound up with fourteen fish over two mornings, her mom was second with 10 fish over two days, dads friend richard has nine fish, and her dad wound up with seven. We did lose a bunch of fish right at the boat..... to say the least, we aren't the most experienced net crew around but it was a great time. Her mom won big fish of the weekend with the Koke, which was the first one I'd ever seen in person, so that was very cool.

Now for those of you interested in Diamond Fork...... Both the fish I caught were browns, caught on soft plastics. I missed several little rats before I caught the little fish. I did catch one fifteen inch brown with a huge head but a skinny little body....> I think I've caught him before but I can never be sure since I don't tag them or anything. It was nice, there weren't tons of people and the road back there has gotten much better. I heard from the Forest Service that they plan on opening all of Diamond Fork up this month.....but I didn't drive down the road to find out if its open yet. I just fished the upper end. Hope this makes for good reading for everyone and thanks to all for the advice, suggestions and support.
