Agree. The power float which is designed to hold a trolling motor and battery is exactley what you said. Designed for that. A gas motor would be top heavy and more than likely lift prop out of water or near the surface presenting several safety issues.
If you want power get a pontoon with a 28lbs thrust trolling motor and you will boogie around[
] They are becoming very reasonable on price and there is assistance with moving it and the motor on different sites.
