GAS POWERED MOTOR ON A TUBE....?
#21
Dryrod, that pic of the powered float tube. We were up at Henrys Lake about 5 or 6 years back and I saw a couple of them. At first couldn't figure out what they were. As I got closer, I saw an older gentleman in his late 50's early 60's in one and what looked like a kid in the other. I kept hearing," got another one Bruce". I finally got close enough to him to start a conversation. I commented on his choice of tube and how interesting it was. I can't recall where he got them, but it was probably out of South Africa. Anyway, he said he got one for him and one for his mother. What I thought was a kid (mainly because she was so small and had a big hat on) was his 80+ year old mother. Can you say surprise?[shocked] They fish Henrys Lake quite regularly. In fact his mothers picture is in Bill Schiess' book, Fishing Henrys Lake . I'm pretty sure it's her, and I think her name is Pat.

Anyway back to the original story. They (float tubes) looked awkard to get in and out of, maneuver and to carry. I didn't ask him any technical questions about them or if they handled any good. He just said he liked the idea of a float tube and motor/battery combination. This was just about the time that the 'Float Power' came out and they were being built in Park City. No other tube power was available that I know of.

I haven't seen either one of them up at Henrys the past couple years, of course, we haven't fished it a whole lot either as bad as it's been, and I haven't seen anymore of those tubes.
