well the weekend report from the guys at work .
suckers hit full force yesterday around 4 pm on the rifle river . the tidabawasse river had the begining of it's sucker run on saturday .
the northerns are spawning in the ditches up here . but pike season is not open !! 40" - 46" pike have been spotted . little known fact from a dnr co. , it is illeagle to fish in ditches . i kinda find that hard to belive , but the other guys at work swear to it too .
on the way to work , ice on the lakes and ponds , snow on the roadsides .
on the way home , no ice on the ponds , just a skim of ice on the lakes and i bet if you combined a couple of snowpiles together you just might have enough to fill a pick up truck . [

on the suckers question , which redhorse ? michigan bosts 6 different redhorse sucker species . greater ,golden ,shorthead,black , river and silver .
we have the 3 chubsucker species ; white , western creek and lake .
2 of the buffalo species

2 of the buffalo species ; bigmouth and black (commonally mistaken for carp species of fish )
then there's the spotted sucker , northern hog sucker , quillback sucker , and the white sucker .
the white sucker is also called the redside or stergon sucker . all in all 15 different varieties of suckers . one caracteristic that the white sucker has ( i think ) is the "V" shaped mouth . all the other suckers have an eliptical or oval shaped mouth .
now there is one other species of sucker in michigan they do not list .
twolegidous gullableous it is the largest of all breeds and is only visible on one particular day , april first . come thursday , i will probably be one of them , lol !
to bad they have caller i.d. now , i miss the days of telephoning people up , pretending i'm taking a survey of appliances used and then ask ,
"is your refridigarator running?"
