Last week me and my bride went over to starvy for a couple of days. Well, the trip over was a bit slow, going through Indian canyon there was road construction in a few places and we had to wait for a piolet to take us through when there was an break in on coming traffic. We got there a bit later than hoped for, close to 10am. A beautiful day it was. Water temp 62* Mon. and 61* Tues. Calm winds and blue sky's both days.
We hoped we would catch a few good trout, some of those bigger ones that are often talked about. We didn't. Mon. we got two, Tues. we got two. The four of them were 16-19", Violet did hook a small brown about 11".
The other fisherman we saw and talked with were after walleye and it appeared most of what they caught were small. Not being a walleye fisher person I asked a few questions about what I should do to catch a few or one. (Move around until you find em, then get down to em with a jig and worm.) Next day that's what we did, and we caught some. Now as I recall this size are the ones called cigars, I'm not sure if any of the ones we kept were over 12".
I have caught walleye before but admittedly I did not know what I was doing when I did. I do know they tasted pretty good so we kept all we caught, after all they were bigger than most perch so what have I to loose?
I also caught a couple of small, small mouth bass while fishing for the walleye.
It was a fun trip, good to get away for something different.
The walleye were delicious and the trout, being a trout, were some of the best I have eaten.
