Curtis, what do you grow that requires daily watering?  The reason I ask is because when I grew up, in Payson, UT, we had a large garden (corn, cucumbers, peppers, tomatoes, strawberries and a few other vegetables).  We got our water from a ditch that ran in front of our house.  Approximately, every 7 1/2 days we got our water turn of just over 2 hours.  That was the only water that our plants ever received, and the garden grew just fine.

I have a drip irrigation system, so in the amount of time I have it on, the ground would never absorb the amount of water that the ground could absorb when flood irrigating, that being said, where I live, the ground is sandy and does not hold water well. One thing I found over the many years I have lived here, is when I water on a daily basis, I get more produce and we blanch and freeze dry our excess produce, and in good years, we get enough to last until the next year, so we rarely buy produce, except for the items we don't grow. If you still grow a garden, how often do you water it?

With sandy soil your method makes more sense.  I water my garden three times a week (I would only water twice if I didn't have raspberries, but they seem to do better with additional water) and I also have a drip system. My soil is the opposite of sandy it has lots of clay in it.
