Barney is at it again at Mantua
#29
I was one of the lucky ones who got a ticket and was parked west of that last arrow sign. I was pretty vocal on the phone when talking to the officer that gave us the ticket. I'm going to fight this ticket.

I'm going up with a strategy....Here are my points that may help:

- The Utah Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices states:
"If the parking restriction applies to a limited area or zone, the limits of the restriction should be shown by arrows or supplemental plaques. If arrows are used and if the sign is at the end of a parking zone, there should be a single-headed arrow pointing in the direction that the regulation is in effect. If the sign is at an intermediate point in a zone, there should be a double-headed arrow pointing both ways. When a single sign is used at the transition point between two parking zones, it should display a right and left arrow pointing in the direction that the respective restrictions apply."

- There are two entrances/exits to that spot where we parked. On the ramp side and off of Reservoir Drive road. If you were to come through Reservoir Drive then you wouldn't see those first signs that are .53 miles from the sign we parked at. That Reservoir Drive "Ts" into the first sign with the double arrows. So making the statement that we should of seen that first sign is null and void IMO when you have two access points.

- I don't know what the regulation is on how far apart No Parking Signs have to be, but it isn't .53 miles. The city has set the precedent of 20-30 feet in that area. Every 20-30 feet there is another sign that says no parking. Then the huge gap (.53 miles) between that furthest west one and the ramp.

- The ticket was for "Failure to obey a regulatory Sign" so we have to stick to that on face value. On the phone Justin Brown (Cop) was saying we were impeding traffic, but the ticket wasn't for that it was for not following a sign.

- History has shown that if you park west of that last sign you won't get a ticket. there is no consistency throughout the years on how that is regulated

- By the number of cars west of that sign complaining and very Confused, the city should know there is a problem and the signage should be corrected.

I'm going to court and look forward to seeing Justin there. If you call Gephart I would help out in any way. This is shell game they are playing up there I feel like Been fishing up there for many years, parked in the same spot, and this is the first ticket I've received. Merry Christmas you fithy animal...LOL

I would be interested in once you go to court how it plays out for you. I'll keep everyone posted on my experience. I guess this is a bucket list item. Never had to fight a ticket in court. HAHA
