The stream entering the west side of Echo lake comes directly out of Joan Lake. My map (google earth) doesn't show a "Cobb" lake anywhere there, might be small. Joan lake about as big as Echo, and beautiful . Like you, I have never caught anything out of "Gem" lake. I think it's very shallow. Cowboy, it is really nice up on that bench, once you get past that first intimidating steep climb. after that it's just a walk in the park, and a nice one too.
