I would definitely have to say that heavy tackle is necessary at times. From my own experience, fishing the lillypads and getting the fish out of there when they take your lure off the top. I pulled my friends small boat and anchor about 20 feet closer to the pads while muscling the fish out. Glad I had the heavier line!

It also helps to have heavier line when you cast into the tree branches as I've done several times last year. Hehe.
