Hey Jim Great report ! Great bunch of Cats.
Wife and I tried bank tangling off the new fishing dock at Willard Bay north yesterday. Took home 2 giant ZEROS [
]
I have been using 6/0 Gamakatsu Octopus hooks for about 2 months now. The 4/0 and 5/0 circle hooks I had been using seemed to allow more bait "hang off" the hook even when hooked multiple times. That allowed the smaller river cats to nibble away at the bait till they would get it all stripped off. The larger 6/0 Octopus hooks have a little longer shank, a larger barb, and penetrate the cut carp skin a bit easier.
When I have been fortunate enough to get a Cat to take the bait, they have all had good solid hooks in upper or lower lips behind the jaw cartilage where they haven't "spit" the hook, or swallowed it down their throats or into their gills.
Haven't lost any hooks, and done less damage to the fish. (Except for the Carp I intentionally snagged the other day [
])
