Wondering about the boat ramp at porcupine. Can I put my 18' tracker in? What are the road conditions and is it wakeless?
[#800000]There isn't any ramps at Porcupine. There are two launch areas and both are dirt/sand. The dirt launch area is the first one you come to and is very steep and full of rocks. I launched my old boat - a 16 ft Tracker Targa - several times from the area. I will NOT even try to launch my 20.5 ft ThunderJet from that area.[/#800000]

[#800000]The second launch area is a dirt parking area and sand beach to launch. I have launched the old Tracker and the new ThunderJet there with no issues other than having to get the beach users to move when pulling the boat out.[/#800000]

[#800000]You will NEED a 4-wheel drive tow vehicle to launch at either area.[/#800000]

[#800000]The road in is rough and dusty from below the dam until you get to either launch. The width varies from single lane to just BARELY 2 lanes all the way in with lots of curves/bends. There is an LDS camp just past the back of the reservoir and gets heavily used on weekends. That equates to lots of idiots driving cars and trucks way to fast for those road conditions, so go slow and be very alert.[/#800000]

[#800000]The reservoir IS wakeless and IS listed on the Utah DNR list of wakeless waters. You will find some fishing folks ignoring that rule, but will not find any power squadron folks up there. Fishing boats, kayaks, paddle boards, and canoes is the norm.
