The best time is to find the fish is post spawn. They get really aggressive after they procreate. So its really difficult to say when that is specifically, but usually mid to late May is a good time for Deer Creek. Any rocky shoreline that you can find a shelf is a good bet. There are lots of those around the lake. Pre-spawn and spawn are when most people pursue them. The bite can be so subtle at that time, most will not know they are getting bit. Its almost a sixth sense type of sensation, but when you realize it, you won't forget it. This is because of their cheek muscles and they can suck in the jig and you will get a tick or a sudden addition of weight to your presentation. So a sensitive rod is crucial. When you use crankbaits, they will usually slam the lure and you will feel a strike. Another good location to fish is around weed lines. I usually fish Deer Creek from the float tube and do pretty good there. Good luck in your quest.
