Those darn carp will hit about anything, very opportunistic feeders. I remember fishing dead threadfin shad on a jig head at Elephant Butte in NM and we got so many carp arm arms were shot. I was a lot younger then too!
Now every time I think I have a 30 + cat on, I worry its a carp and usually it is[
