A couple things to know about Hawaii sport fishing. 1) They don't have a commercial fishery. What this means is the guides make their money on the fish you catch (which they can keep and sale )This means they are motivated to get you on fish and keep you on fish, and make sure you are well taken care of. That is why it is relatively inexpensive compared to other places. They want fisherman in the boat , and they want you catching fish. They don't just take you on a boat ride , if you don't catch fish they are losing money.
2 ) The above mentioned motivates all Oahu guides to give you a good experience
3) The boats out of waianai are good because that part of the island is where the currents favor most of the desired sportfish. So your travel time on the boat is reduced greatly. Less travel time to the fishing than say a boat out of Honolulu harbor
4) If they are still doing it , there is a boat out of haliewa that does night time shark fishing, I highly recommend that trip
